FAQ

  • What is a doula?

A doula can be a huge part of your support system. An emotional crutch when you need it, a connection to resources, and an educator/advocate. A doula can provide evidence-based knowledge to help you confidently make informed decisions. Doulas will generally also provide emotional and physical support during labor. As your doula, I can help carry some of the load as you bring your little one into the world and adjust to your new lifestyle.

  • Why have a doula?

Simply having a doula present at your birth is proven to:

    - Lower probability of a C-section

    - Lower probability of medical intervention

    - Reduce length of labor

    - Increase breastfeeding success after birth

    - Increase birth satisfaction for the birthing person and their partner

  • Does The Village Doula accept Medicaid? Are there other ways to pay?

Yes! I accept state insurance (a.k.a. Medicaid). Please have your ProviderOne services card handy.

If you do not have Medicaid I am more than happy to set up a payment plan for you. If you are of Indigenous descent please inquire about funding from STN Indigenous Birth Justice. You may receive services free of charge.

  • Where are doulas allowed?

Doulas are allowed at all birthing places in the Spokane area. We can attend hospital births, birth centers, and home births. Usually, we are also able to attend scheduled C-sections to offer additional support.

  • What types of birth does The Village Doula support?
